15 Night Diving Tips
- Arrive to the dive site early to allow enough time assemble gear, check currents, & perform buddy checks. - Make sure you have fresh batteries for both dive lights; your main light & your back-up light. - Carry a glow stick or strobe to attach onto the anchor or assent line for navigating back to the boat. - Don't forget to pack snacks for in between dives. Granola bars or similar high carbo bars provide a good source of energy. - Stay hydrated-drink plenty of water before & after your dive. - Have a separate 'dry bag' for your towel & dry clothes. Even a large zip-loc bag is better than nothing. - Always listen to the pre-dive briefings. If you missed something in the briefing, ask. - Pack a warm cover-up for after the dive. - Before entering the water, turn on your computer and charge it with your dive light (most new computers will glow in the dark when charged with direct light). - Check your gear upon entry. Do Not turn on your light at the surface (unless otherwise instructed); jelly-fish can be attracted to your dive light. - Eat a good meal- you'll burn it off! - BE EARLY! Being early allows you more time to park, find the boat, load your gear, gear up, & the time to relax before the boat gets under way - which also helps minimize anxiety. - Don't forget cash for tips. - Give your fellow divers some 'space' underwater- especially those who are taking pictures. Nobody likes a group of divers hovering on top of them while trying to get a shot of nocturnal sea life. - Brush up on your jokes, it makes for a fun evening while waiting for the sun to go down!
